How to get to Hogwarts – 7 Harry Potter Movie Locations

Welcome to Hogwarts

Have you always dreamed about going to Hogwarts one day? Well, I’ve got good news for you! Here’s your guide on how to (almost) get to Hogwarts:

London Leadenhall Market
You obviously can’t go to Hogwarts without your school books and a wand, so your first stop on this journey will be a visit to Diagon Alley. You will find the entry to the Leaky Cauldron in Leadenhall Market, a beautifully decorated market in north-east London, close to the Monument. Actually, the Leaky Cauldron Pub has gone and there’s now an optician in the shop but I’m sure this is just a trick to keep out the muggles.Leaky Cauldron

London King’s Cross Station
Now that you’ve got all your school books, you are ready to leave for your great adventure. The train to Hogwarts goes from King’s Cross Station, platform 9 ¾ on 1st September at exactly 11am, so don’t be late or you might have to take a flying car to get to school (and that usually means trouble).Harry Potter Kings Cross

Goathland Station
After a long train-journey through the beautiful English landscape, you will arrive at Hogsmeade Station (or Goathland Station, as it is called by muggles), where Hagrid will already be waiting for you. If you want to get to the station by a regular muggle train, you have to take the North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train from either Whitby or Pickering. Make sure to have the Harry Potter soundtrack on your iPod for an extra magical feeling.Hogsmeade Station

Oxford – Christ Church College
Welcome to Hogwarts! You have finally arrived at the destination of your dreams. Walk up those famous stairs and get ready to explore your new school.Hogwarts Entrance Stairs
It’s time to set foot in the legendary Great Hall of Hogwarts where you will be welcomed by Professor Dumbledore and then sorted into your house. And don’t forget to have some pumpkin juice for the traditional welcome dinner. Christ Church College Hall was not an actual filming location but it was used as an inspiration and recreated at the Warner Bros Studio. Hogwarts Great Hall

Are you ready for your first day of school? Head down the cloister of Durham Cathedral to get to your first classes of Transfiguration and Defence against the Dark Arts. Harry Potter Durham Cathedral

Remember this tree? It’s the exact place where Malfoy was turned into a ferret by Professor Moody after starting an argument with Harry.

Oxford – Divinity School
Fell off your broom during the last Quidditch match? Don’t worry, Madam Pomfrey knows a cure for almost everything. You will find the Hogwarts hospital wing inside the famous Divinity School. The same room was also used as a filming location for the dance lesson in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.Hogwarts Dance Lesson Hall

Oxford – Duke Humphrey’s Library
Exams are slowly approaching, time to study a little more – and there’s no better place to study than Hogwarts library. To visit Duke Humphrey’s Library you have to join a guided tour of Bodleian Library. Unfortunately, it is not allowed to take pictures but the tour is definitely worth joining, the library is absolutely impressive!Hogwarts Library

Congratulations! You’ve finished your first year at Hogwarts! 🙂
